The training will review the structure of the energy code

California’s energy code is designed to reduce energy consumption in newly constructed and existing buildings and continue to move the industry toward state goals. This Building Energy Efficiency standards, Title 24 Part 6 and Part 11, are updated by the California Energy Commission every three years through a public process. As the code has grown in complexity since its inception in 1978, it has become longer and includes several supporting documents and manuals. The standards include energy and water efficiency requirements (and indoor air quality requirements) for newly constructed buildings, additions to existing buildings, and alterations to existing buildings. The code includes mandatory standards, prescriptive and performance standards. This training will provide the context and overview of the Energy Code under the authority of the CEC. We will discuss the components of the Energy Code and supporting references and manuals.

The training will review the structure of the energy code and how it addresses the following:

Non-residential and residential buildings
New construction, additions and alterations
Energy efficiency, ventilation and renewables
Mandatory measures and performance and prescriptive approaches
ICC CEUs: 0.1
